Two Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) doctors received top honors being named to the Best Doctors in America List for 2017-18.
Drs. Richard Abben and Peter Fail received the honor, which shows their expertise in providing world-class patient care.
According to a release issued by CIS, only 4 percent of doctors in America earn the honor, which is decided by impartial peer review in which doctors who excel in their specialties are selected by their peers in the procession.
Dr. Abben is an electrophysiologist and an interventional cardiologist. He serves as the director of both cardiac interventions and the arrhythmia center at CIS in Houma.
He has broad experience in interventional cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology and is a lecturer, researcher and published author in both areas.
Dr. Abben is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases and is one of only a handful of physicians in the country that has completed subspecialty certification in both clinical cardiac electrophysiology and interventional cardiology.
Dr. Fail is the Director of the TGMC cardiac catheterization lab and interventional research and he also serves as CT Medical Director at CIS.
He is heavily involved with a comprehensive Structural Heart Program in Houma, which is the only program of its kind in Louisiana to participate in research trials and provide treatments for valve disorders and structural heart defects.
Dr. Fail has pioneered the use of multiple new devices including the Evolut R and MitraClip, and he was the first to perform deployment of a custom, fenstrated endograft in the Tri-State area.
Dr. Fail is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. He is level three certified in the cardiovascular computed tomography experience program.•
